Ejnar Kanding

Biography

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. As a child, when I was alone at home, I often took the front plate off the piano and played directly on the strings. The cluster-like sounds completely magically enchanted me. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? English Chamber Orchestra, Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, Bach: "Double" Concerto for Two Violins In D Minor & Violin Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 Bach's "Double Concerto" in D minor is very close to my heart. The fugue in the 1st movement is a modulating rondo with its sound of hope and light. The 2nd movement is the world's most beautiful melody in its melancholy. The last is full of drive. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Still Waters” I composed Still Waters for my beloved mother and performed it at her funeral in 2014. Later, my friend and photographer Kasper Nybo did an amazing video, which you can see on Apple Music. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? The premiere of "Slender Trees" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in April 2023 featured the string quartet American Contemporary Music Ensemble. For the music, I was inspired by a Hammershøj drawing that was exhibited in the Danish Golden Age. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I am looking forward to the upcoming premiere of my piano quartet at Carnegie Hall in 2026. Likewise, I have planned a violin concerto and a requiem as works to be prioritised. My ensemble, Contemporánea, will release my 53-minute LEGEND in 2025.
